Respiratory Health Service

Who we are

The North Simcoe Family Health Team’s Respiratory Health Program originated in 2007 and focuses on Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Smoking Cessation.   This service is provided by a Registered Nurse, Certified Respiratory Educator.
The goal is to advance the respiratory health and overall knowledge of the North Simcoe Family Health Team patient population, focusing on enhancing patient self- management and quality of life.
This program is available to all family physicians or nurse practitioners within the North Simcoe Family Health Team. Our Respiratory Educator can provide a variety of care options, dependant on the request of your family physician.

Program Overview

The Certified Respiratory Educator will meet with you to review your Asthma, COPD (emphysema or chronic bronchitis), or help you quit smoking.

  • We will work together to develop an ACTION PLAN so you can manage your lung health…
  • You will learn what affects your lungs…
  • How to manage chronic cough, allergies, sinus congestion…
  • Learn how puffers work, and how to use them correctly…

A breathing test may be necessary to measure how much air you can blow out of your lungs. If you are booked for this test, please refrain from using your puffers on the day of your test, but bring them in to your appointment, and please refrain from smoking for at least 1 hour prior to your appointment.
